1. Admiral Raymond A. Spruance Plaza Marker
Inscription. This plaza is dedicated in honor of an exemplary naval combat commander of WWII. The Great American victories of Midway, the Marshalls, the Philippine Sea, Iwo Jima and Okinawa are symbols of his special genius. In a similar fashion he achieved further distinction in diplomacy as ambassador to the Republic of the Philippines from 1952-1955. Few Americans served their country so effectively and at such high levels as this quiet warrior. His career serves as an example and challenge to service personnel and diplomats alike. June 20, 1980

Erected 1980.
