He led or actively supported Shiloh Orphanage, the Boy Scouts, the Ninth Street YMCA, the Augusta Civic and Business League, the NAACP, the State Teachers Association, and the local Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity. A. C. Griggs School was named in his honor.
