• Dr. Edwin L. Stephens, first president of SLII, planted oak trees on campus on January 1, 1901.
• The first campus building, known initially as the Main Building, was completed in June 1901.
• SLII opened on September 18, 1901, with 100 students
• In 1903, 18 students were the first to graduate from SLII and the Alumni Association was formed.
• The Vermillion student newspaper, was first published in 1904.
 
Erected 2000 by Alumni and Friends of the University.
