In 1920, the Main Building was renamed Martin Hall in honor of Louisiana Sen Robert. Martin, who introduced legislation that created SLII

In 1921, SLII became a college and conferred its first bachelor's degrees.
SLII was renamed Southwestern Louisiana Institute in 1921.
