Saxenburgerstraat

The street is named after the Saxenburg country estate. Next to it was the pottery works of Richard van Opoeter, who made supplies for the sugar industry. The many sugar refineries in Amsterdam were regular buyers of the pottery. In 1776 fourteen sugar manufacturers took part in the establishment of the Association of Pottery Works on the Overtoom. Later the director, Bas van Heijningen, would live in Saxenburg for a short time.
