1. The First School House Marker
Inscription. In Southern Adams County as the pioneers came into the new country, the necessity of school was realized. The McHugh school was built near this site in 1837 or 1838 and is reputed to be the first public school in Adams County along with the Gorsline School in Root Township.
 
Erected 1976 by Decatur Optimist Club.
