1. Cannon From the Battle of the Alamo Marker
Inscription. Typical of the type of cannon purchased by merchants during the 18th century to guard ports and ships, this 4 pounder was cast in Great Britain sometime after 1725. It was used by the Texans during the 1836 Battle of the Alamo. Once Texas won its independence, the Mexican Army disabled this cannon by breaking off its cascabel and trunnions before leaving San Antonio. It and others were later found buried at the northwest corner of the Alamo, near the present intersection of Houston and Alamo streets.
