Inscription.
In the mid-19th century Mrs. Joan Hills Murray conducted a school in this building. Among her students was Rutherford B. Hayes. although generally known as “Mrs. Murray’s School” this edifice was originally built for Sophia Moore in 1821 as a combined school and orphanage.
 
Erected 1991 by Delaware City Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution.
