The Red 73 Creamery
It was first known in 1900 as the J. A. Long Creamery located at 120 East Elm in Union City, Ohio. As the business continued to grow it was moved to 304 East Elm in 1915. The plant produced butter, bottled buttermilk and sold ice.
In January 1931, because of financial debt and difficulties caused by a drop in egg prices, Mr. J. A. Long leased the creamery buildings, machinery, coal yards, and creamery stations for a period of five years to a group of local businessmen and farmers.
In February 1936, Joe Teaford and his son John ought the Red 73 Creamery. Milk, powdered eggs. and cheese were added to the business.
In 1963, the Red 73 Creamery was sold to John Morrell Meat Packing Company and moved once again to 400 East Elm. The plant was then sold to a local businessman, John Montano.
Portions of the original Red 73 Creamery were torn down in 1981. In 1998, the land was purchased by the village and the remainder of the building was demolished.
Morning Fresh wholesale of meats and cheeses, now owns the building.
