In January 1941, Joel Lafayette Fletcher became the third president of SLI.
By the end of 1941, SLI had either won or tied for Louisiana Intercollegiate Conference championships in football, basketball, boxing and track.
Cypress Grove was flooded in 1942 to provide a source of water in case enemy bomb raids ignited fires on campus.
SLI secured the V-12, V-5 and V-7 military training units in 1943 that countered a drastic decline in enrollment caused by students' military service during World War II.
This covered brick walkway was constructed to link major buildings on campus.
Erected 2000 by Alumni and Friends of the University.
