English:
Paul Ahyi (1930-2010) was a versatile artist who got his inspiration from the artistic wealth of the royal Court of Abomey (Benin) where he lived during his childhood. He studied in Dakar between 1949 and 1952, then went to France to complete his training at the Ecole des Beaux Arts of Lyon, then in Paris. He designed the flag of Togo while creating a large variety of works among which a series of monumental statues in Lomé and in the rest of the country.

Forces Vives is his first work in situ. Imposing and massive, it represents three geometric shape characters. The two hands outstretching to the sky add an upward movement to the work. Thus, Paul Ahyi symbolises family, hope, union and the force of the Togolese people who build strong foundations for the future.
