Quick Facts: Construction completed 1897 • In use January 2, 1902 - August 31, 1959

In the 1880s Hamilton's West End community was growing rapidly. The closest fire protection was a volunteer station on the northeast corner of the Crystal Palace Grounds (Victoria Park). In 1891 it was demolished along with the Crystal Palace building. Mr. Hand, a local fireworks factory owner, led a delegation of West End residents who successfully petitioned City Hall for a proper station.

- Designed by Hamilton architect Lucien Hills.
- Put into service January 2, 1902 as the Sophia St. Fire Hall, also known as The Park Station.

A victim of changing times, the Strathcona Fire Hall closed on August 31, 1959; replaced by a new facility on Ray Street. In 1960 the Hamilton Theatre Inc. was utilizing the old fire hall building as their headquarters. The building was spared demolition when the developer was convinced by the Greek community to adaptively reuse it as part of the adjacent apartment complex.

Erected 2019 by City of Hamilton.
