Inscription. In 1961, Jesse Holt became the first African-American athlete allowed to compete against whites in the City of Miami, during strict times of segregation. His first Amateur Athletic Union Track and Field Competition was held at Moore Park, where his performance propelled him to higher ranks. That same year, Holt became the first black athlete selected to the Miami New All-Star Track Team after clocking in at 9.5 seconds in the 100-yard dash.

More than a decade later, Holt returned to Moore Park, but this time it was to pass the baton to a new generation of athletes. He founded the Miami Northwest Express Track Club in 1979 and began serving the City of Miami's inner-city youth and their families. Today, Mr. Holt is recognized for helping counties individuals became Olympians, World Champions, Diamond League Champions and successful citizens.

The City of Miami, Mayor Francis Suarez, Chairman Keon Hardemon, and the Board of City Commissioners are honored to re-name the track at Moore Park the "Jesse L. Holt, Jr. Track".
