Regarding Maxwell Kennedy. Kennedy operated a normal (teacher's) school in Macomb before moving to Rushville in 1885. The Rushville normal school opened that April on the second floor of a building on the north side of the town square. The first class consisted of three students. As enrollment grew, the school moved into larger quarters on the square's east side and later added business courses. Kennedy's July, 1908 death and competition from the State Normal School in Macomb led to the private Rushville school's closure in 1909.
