Regarding Mudd Memorial Hall. Designed by Ralph Carlin Flewelling in 1929 in the Romanesque Revival style, modeled after a medieval Tuscan monastery, Mudd Memorial Hall of Philosophy is home to the USC College of Letters, Arts and Sciences’ School of Philosophy, and the James Harmon Hoose Library of Philosophy. Mudd Hall has a number of distinctive features, the most striking being the 140-foot tower that stands at one corner of a rectangular courtyard. The building donation was provided by Colonel Seeley W. Mudd and totaled approximately $265,000.
