The property meets the criteria for LAHCM designation because it embodies the "distinguishing characteristics of an architectural-type specimen, inherently valuable for a study of a period style or method of construction," as an excellent example of Mediterranean Revival residential architecture.
The house was used in the TV pilot episode of Modern Family as the home of Mitchell and Cam. The upper and lower units each have 2,100 square feet, with 3 bedrooms, living areas with beamed ceilings and wood burning fireplaces, original hardwood floors, decorative moulding, dramatic tripartite windows, and coved ceilings. The upstairs has an outdoor dining terrace and downstairs has an atrium and home office space. There is a detached studio, and the grounds feature a yard with brick courtyards.
