1. Yankee Flyer Diner Mural Marker
Inscription.
The Yankee Flyer Diner, a cornerstone of downtown Nashua,
was located on this site.
The mural captures life in the city in the 1940s and 50s.
Funds were derived from the public sector.
Painted by James Aponovich in 1997, the mural has been
placed at this site for all to enjoy.

In 1965, the Yankee Flyer Diner was sold and moved to
Newburyport, Massachusetts, thus marking the end of an era.

MAN IN VINTAGE CAR: Henry Willett.
COUPLE IN STELLOS ELECTRIC TRUCK: Jim and Sandy Stellos.
GIRL ON BICYCLE SELLING NASHUA TELEGRAPH: Ana Aponovich,
daughter of the artist.
MAN PURCHASING THE PAPER: Eliot Carter, philanthropist;
Treasurer and Vice-president of Nashua Corporation;
Chairman of the Nashua- NH Foundation.
MAN WITH DOG: Bernard Pastor, former owner of Fletcher Appliance.
MAN IN DOORWAY OF DINER: Peter Pleakas, cook; later owner of
the Transfer Station Diner on Main Street.
MAN WALKING ACROSS STREET: Chris Kyriax, owner of the
Yankee Flyer Diner. Upon his death in 1952, his widow, Mary Anne,
became the last owner.
BOY RUNNING ACROSS THE STREET: Jared Goyette, son of
Robert and Ellen Goyette, grandson of Dr. and Mrs. Charles

City Arts Nashua organized a community project to give new life to the
Yankee Flyer Diner Mural in 2015. Artist James Aponovich, assisted by
Elizabeth Johansson Aponovich, restored the mural in their Peterborough studio.
It was reinstalled and dedicated on November 28, 2015. The restoration of this
public art treasure was made possible by the following major donors,
as well as many members of the community who supported the project.
