and with details of the exterior of the house almost unchanged. It is one of the best preserved and least modified houses of that period in Dixon. … Owned and built by Christopher Brookner, an immigrant carpenter and one of Dixon's earliest settlers , this house is best regarded as simple Italianate, although to a lesser degree it exhibits details more common to Greek Revival or Federal style. …

Exterior changes have been slight, perhaps because only three families have owned the house since it was built in 1861-2. … subsequent owners of Mr. Brookner's house were his widow, a family named Moeller and his great granddaughter.
