I denna byggnad från 1736 bor Sveriges ambassadör i Haag. Byggnaden har varit i svensk ägo sedan 1930.
De långa diplomatiska relationerna mellan Sverige och Nederländerna startade dock redan våren 1614 med att länderna utbytte fasta ambassadörer. Vår fastighet har varit bebodd sedan 1500-talet och så långt tillbaka kan man också spåra dess ägare. Här har många olika familjer levt, det ena ödet brokigare än det andra. På 1700-talet flyttade ett franskt teatersällskap in och strax innan den förra fastigheten såldes och revs var här opera. Idag representerar ambassadören på entréplanet och har också sin privatbostad här. Det svenska ambassadkansliet ligger på andra sidan staden.
Residensbyggnaden är uppförd av tre fastighetsspekulanter och den som tog fram ritningarna till huset lät sig inspireras av då- tidens stjärnarkitekt i Haag, den franske Daniel Marot. Fasaden har förändrats under åren, men det är fortfarande ett ståtligt franskinspirerat palats på bästa adress i Haag. Lite längre ner på denna gata, på Lange Voorhout nr 34, finns ett hus som ritats av arkitekten Marot själv.
Fastigheten ägs och förvaltas av svenska staten genom Statens fastighetsverk (SFV) och är en del av vårt svenska kulturarv i utlandet.

De diplomatieke relatie tussen Zweden en Nederland bestaat echter al sinds de lente van 1614, toen de landen besloten vaste ambassadeurs uit te wisselen. Deze plek is al sinds de zestiende eeuw bewoond en de eigenaren zijn ook zo ver terug bekend. Er hebben veel verschillende families gewoond, sommigen kleurrijker dan anderen. In de achttiende eeuw kwam hier een Frans theatergezelschap terecht. Vlak voordat het vorige pand werd verkocht en afgebroken, werden hier opera's gehouden. Tegenwoordig is dit de privéwoning van de ambassadeur, met een ontvangstruimte op de begane grond. De Zweedse ambassade bevindt zich aan de andere kant van de stad.
Het residentiegebouw is gebouwd door drie vastgoedspeculanten. De ontwerper van dit huis heeft zich laten inspireren door de sterrenarchitect uit het Den Haag van die tijd, de Franse Daniel Marot. De gevel is in de loop der jaren veranderd, maar het is en blijft een statig, op de Franse architectuur geïnspireerd stadspalels op het beste adres van Den Haag. lets verderop In deze straat, op het Lange Voorhout nr. 34, staat een huls dat door de architect Marot zelf is ontworpen.
Het pand is in eigendom en beheer van de Zweedse rijksdienst voor onroerend goed (Statens Fastighetsverk) en is onderdeel van het Zweeds cultureel erfgoed in het buitenland.
This building from 1736 is the home of the Swedish Ambassador in The Hague. The property has been in Swedish ownership since 1930.
However, the long diplomatic relations between Sweden and the Netherlands began back in spring 1614, when the countries first exchanged permanent ambassadors. There has been a property on this site since the 17th century, and the line of previous owners can be traced back all that way. There have been many colourful residents over the years. The 18th-century occupants included a French theatre company, and opera was performed here just before the previous house was sold and demolished. Today, the Ambassador entertains guests on the ground floor, and the building also houses his private apartment. The Embassy of Sweden has its chancery on the other side of the city.
The residence building was constructed by three property speculators to a design inspired by the star architect in The Hague at the time, Frenchman Daniel Marot. The façade may have changed over the years, but this still remains a lavish French-style mansion at the best address in The Hague. A little further down the street, at Lange Voorhout 34, stands a building designed by the architect Marot himself.
The Ambassador's Residence is owned by the Swedish State and managed by the National Property Board Sweden (SFV) as part of Sweden's cultural heritage abroad.
