Kokomo in Howard County, Indiana — The American Midwest (Great Lakes)
Seiberling Mansion
Seiberling Mansion was built in 1890 for Monroe Seiberling, a well-known Kokomo natural gas boom industrialist. His elaborate Neo-Jacobean, Romanesque Revival mansion took three years to build, costing $50,000. George Kingston, inventor of the carburetor used in Henry Ford’s Model-T, lived in the mansion from 1914 to 1946. Indiana University at Kokomo used the mansion for classes from 1946 to 1965. The Howard County Historical Society is responsible for the listing of the Mansion on the National Register of Historic Places on December 16, 1971. In 1972, after a renovation, the mansion became the home of the Howard County Historical Museum.
Erected 2009 by the Indiana Daughters of the American Revolution; K. Cynthia Thompson Stout, Indiana State Regent 2006-2009.
