Inscription.
N'oublions jamais.

(English translation:)

Under the occupation and with the help of the Vichy government, this building, at that time the Levitan Store, served as an annex to the Drancy transit camp. Here, from July 1943 to August 1944, hundreds of Jews, many of whom were later deported to Auschwitz and Bergen-Belsen, were forced to sort furniture and objects looted by the Nazis from the apartments of Jewish families. Let us never forget.

Excerpt (in translation): The German invasion would put an end to the Levitan saga. With the Aryanization of the economy, Jews were no longer authorized to administer businesses: the Levitan stores were confiscated and the company was liquidated in July 1941. Requisitioned by the Germans, the Levitan store became from 1943 onwards an annex of the Drancy camp.

2. Magasin Lévitan Marker - wide view
Between July 1943 and August 1944, nearly 120 people, mostly Jews, were interned in the store and assigned to a sordid task: they were responsible for receiving, sorting, cleaning, repairing, packing and shipping furniture and objects looted from the apartments occupied by the Jews. They were surrounded by German forces.
