1. Fire Captain Frank Schnurstein Marker
Inscription.
Captain Frank Schnurstein, 44, of the Forest Park Fire Department suffered a fatal heart attack in the line of duty on March 29, 1969. Schnurstein was one of the first firefighters on scene to the three story building engulfed in flames. Firefighters placed ladders against the building to reach residents trapped in the nineteen apartments on the second and third floors. Schnurstein had just rescued a child and returned to rescue another resident. When he reached the top floor, he was stricken and fell backwards three stories where he landed on the sidewalk. Fire Captain Schnurstein was a twenty year veteran of the Forest Park Fire Department.
