Rione X Campitelli in Roma in Città metropolitana di Roma Capitale, Latium, Rome, Italy — Central Italy (Tyrrhenian Coast)
Tempio di Vespasiano / Temple of Vespasian
The temple was built in AD 79 by Titus and Domitian in honour of their father Vespasian (AD 69-79). Three fine corner columns survive with part of the architrave, decorated with sacrificial objects, rosettes and leaves. The carved frieze depicts the symbols of the High Priest, the post which Vespasian had held as emperor. The inscription records the temple's restoration by the emperors Septimius Severus (AD 193-211) and Caracalla (AD 211-217). The temple was excavated by the architect Valadier in 1811.
