"The Church of Atonement is locally significant as one of the few remaining religious buildings still in use from the peak years of church growth in Door County. A modest example of the Gothic Revival period of construction, the church is an important link between the log structures and refined frame buildings which characterize the village of Fish Creek."

National Registry of Historic Places. It started with the unfinished home of fisherman Charles Gesler, purchased by the Diocese of Fond du Lac for $125. Bishop John Henry Hobart Brown conducted the first service on August 12, 1877. The Church originally had year-round services and in winter the seating capacity fell from 85 to 65 to make room for a wood stove."
