Excerpt (in translation): Arnaldo de Sousa Dantas da Gama (Porto, 1 August 1828 — Porto, 29 August 1869) was a Portuguese journalist and writer, author of novels with a historical setting.

He graduated in Law from the University of Coimbra and practiced law in Porto, which is the main setting for his works of fiction.

He dedicated himself primarily to literature and journalism, also achieving a place as a member of the Royal Academy of Sciences.
