Regarding Hollywood Masonic Temple. Masonry is the world’s first and largest fraternal organization. Construction of the three-story building was led by local lodge master Charles E. Toberman, who was responsible for developing much of Hollywood including the Hollywood Bowl, Grauman's Chinese Theatre, the Roosevelt Hotel, the Max Factor Building, and the El Capitan Theatre. Architect John C. Austin is also noted as the lead architect of the Griffith Observatory and L.A. City Hall.
In 1969, longtime Mason Harold Lloyd was honored in a ceremony as his name was placed on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, directly in front of the Masonic Temple.
The Masons operated the temple until 1982, when they sold the building after several years of declining membership.
The Masonic Temple was designated a Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument in 1984, and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1985.
In July 1998, Disney’s Buena Vista Pictures purchased the Masonic Temple to use it as a promotional venue for its movie premieres at their El Capitan Theatre next door. Since 2003, the Masonic Temple has been the home of ABC's late-night talk show Jimmy Kimmel Live.
