Morgan Camera Shop. . For over fifty years the Morgan Camera Shop was a fixture of the Hollywood community. Completed in 1938 at 6260-62 Sunset Boulevard, it was built for owner Gilbert Morgan, a specialist in "miniature photography," an emerging technology utilizing small, compact cameras. Gilbert's ties to the photography community were strong. Selling an array of camera equipment and photography-related books and magazines, the Morgan Camera Shop was a popular venue for salons and exhibitions, and Gilbert also published a newsletter, Morgan Camera News. His brother, Willard D. Morgan and Willard's wife Barbara, were well-known photographers in New York City and owners of a publishing company featuring the work of other photographers, including Ansel Adams. The Morgan brothers shared business and technical advice, making the Morgan Camera Shop a family affair. The two-story brick building has two storefronts and was designed by architect Marshall P. Wilkinson in the Moderne style, featuring angled ground-level display windows. The existing neon blade sign is a later addition replacing an original metal wall sign that featured the Morgan Camera Shop's distinctive logo that now appears on signage added to the front façade and in the faded painted advertisement on the east elevation.
