Regarding George Washington in Prayer. Although the adjacent markers only provide information on the sculpture sponsor, the sculpture is an iconic American symbol of resolve and dependence during a very dark period in the founding of the United States of America. It is based on The prayer at Valley Forge, painted by H. Brueckner and engraved by John C. McRae in 1866, following another dark period in American history. The sculpture is evocative and has historic symbolism and standing on its own.
