Excerpts (in translation): Aurelio Aguirre Galarraga, born in Santiago de Compostela on April 23, 1833 and died in La Coruña on July 30, 1858, was a Spanish poet.

He began his Law studies at the University of Santiago. He was a man committed to Galicia and to the disadvantaged classes, participating as a militiaman in the 1854 uprising and in the Conxo Banquet, held on March 2, 1856. He was highly esteemed among his Galician contemporaries and from a very young age maintained friendships with regional intellectuals, such as Eduardo Pondal, Manuel Murguía or Rosalía de Castro. Precisely with this one he maintained a strong friendly and literary relationship and in fact dedicated the sonnet Improvisacíon

2. Banquete de Conxo (Wikipedia, in Spanish). Aurelio Aguirre was an attendee at the banquet, and “Sun of Liberty, give me your Light” was his toast.
Excerpt(in translation): The Conxo Banquet took place on March 2, 1856 in the disappeared town hall of Conxo and was an act of fraternization between workers, artisans and students, in which the students, from a high social class, served the workers and artisans as waiters as a symbol of respect and equality. The banquet constituted a gesture of a socialist nature, which aroused the anger of the most powerful sectors of Santiago de Compostela.

It functioned as an attack against the preconceived traditional social scheme, so that students, the majority of the wealthy classes, and artisans shared bread and table...
