Inscription.

Gavilan won the welterweight title in 1951 and successfully defended it seven times. He was never knocked out in his 143 fight career. Gavilan is credited with inventing the "bolo punch", which was half hook and half uppercut. He said he developed it from years of cutting sugarcane in his native Cuba. His professional career consisted of 107 wins, 30 losses & 6 draws - 28 wins by knockout.
