Marine Security, USS Little Rock (CLG-4)-Mediterranean Cruise
A Marine Rifleman and Rifle Sharpshooter, Dick trained both for Sea Duty and as a Motion Picture Operator. He served aboard ships in the Atlantic, Caribbean and Mediterranean. On sea duty for nearly 2 years, his most significant experiences were serving aboard both the aircraft carrier, USS Forestal (CVA-59); and, the guided missile cruiser, USS Little Rock (CLG-4), Marine Security Detachments. The USS Little Rock, Flagship of the 2nd Fleet, uniquely sported two bridges, the 2nd being specifically designed for the Admiral and Commander of the 2nd Fleet, when aboard.
