Bobby, a "Screaming Eagles" paratrooper, began his tour of duty in Vietnam on 16 August 1966.. Unfortunately, he was stricken with malaria for a second time while in-country and was admitted to the Cam Ranh Bay Hospital in Vietnam. He was later transferred to the Clark Air Force Base Hospital in the Republic of the Philippines where he died on 9 January 1967 and after only 146 days in South Vietnam.
