Company "A", 4th Battalion, 39th Infantry, 9th Infantry Division
Paul was decorated for gallantry in two heroic actions. In the first, while based at Bear Cat in Long Bien, he was awarded the Silver Star and Army Commendation Medals for saving his pinned down squad during a Viet Cong offensive using grenades to kill twelve enemy combatants. In another action where wounded, Paul was again decorated with the Bronze Star, Purple Heart and Combat Infantryman Badge for distinguished conduct during combat with the enemy.
