Following Basic Training and advanced per-deployment training in Hawaii, Dick deployed to Vietnam in early 1968 and served there thru February 1969. Prior to departure from Vietnam he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for distinguished & meritorious service in connection with ground operations against a hostile force from April 1968 to February 1969.
