A 1989 U. S. Air Force Academy graduate, James served in multiple capacities on Active Duty and with the Air Force Reserves at HQ Major Command, Air Operations Center, Wing, Group, and Squadron level to include Reserve Advisor, Deputy Group Commander, and Squadron Director of Operations. He was also a Senior Command Pilot and Evaluator with flight experience with SAC and AMC in KC-135 Air Refueling, EC-135 Command and Control, Special Airlift Operations, C-9A Aeromedical Evacuation, C-9C and C-40 DV Airlift.
