Inscription.
Third courthouse prior to building on this site, Charlotte's two earliest courthouses stood in the center of the intersection of Trade and Tryon. Erected in 1845, this courthouse had second story court and jury rooms with main floor offices. The fourth courthouse on S. Tryon was occupied in 1897.
