An Infantryman, Frank served and saw combat in France, Belgium and Germany. He was captured and taken prisoner at Clervaux in northern Luxembourg on 19 December 1944 during the Battle of the Bulge in the Ardennes. He was then held at the largest POW camp in Germany, Stalag IX B at Bad Orb, until liberated by American forces on 2 April 1945.
