While assigned to MAG-34 as an air radar technician, Al performed blind radio checks on bombers returning from Europe and prior to transitioning to the Pacific Theater. Promoted to Corporal, he was then assigned to Marine Detachment, 8th & "I" Street, Washington, DC where he participated in burials at Arlington National Cemetery and other formal functions, and completed his final assignment serving as an instructor in radio equipment.
