Upon completion of Recruit Training at NTS Sampson, NY and the sixteen week Electrician's Mate School at NTS Newport, RI, Stuart was assigned duty aboard the large cruiser, the USS Guam at Navy Yard, Philadelphia while she was undergoing sea trials. Later, he and his ship saw combat mainly in the Pacific Theater of Operations. He was later discharged at PSC Lido Beach, LI, NY.
