North End in Boston in Suffolk County, Massachusetts — The American Northeast (New England)
Salem Street
In the early 1900s, Salem Street was a center for clothing and fabric stores, and this was a Jewish neighborhood, immortalized in the song:
My name is Solomon Levy
At my store on Salem Street
That's where you'll find your coats and hats
And everything that's neat.
Another famous resident of Salem Street was Sophie Tucker, better known as The Last of the Red Hot Mamas. Her house stood where today's expressway separates the North End from Haymarket.
