1. Young Apartments Marker
Inscription.
Constructed: 1911.
Architect: Robert Brown Young (architect for many of Los Angeles' early commercial buildings) for oil man William F. Young.
Style: Classical Revival exterior with Arts and Crafts lobby.
Significance: The Young was recognized as one of Los Angeles' most elegant apartment buildings and represented the better qualities of urban life in the early 20th century. Declared a City of Los Angeles Historic Cultural Monument.
Location: Downtown Los Angeles. Highly visible from the Santa Monica Freeway. The southern edge and gateway to South Park, the Central Business District's residential community.
Size: 52,500 square feet; 5 floors and basement; 66 one-bedroom and studio apartments.

Renovated: Planning and Construction 1990 through 1995.
Owner: Grand Avenue Limited Partnership and The Los Angeles Community Design Center.
Architect: Cavaedium.
Preservation: Martin Eli Weil, Historic Consultant.
