1. "The Tree" Marker
Inscription. This large oak tree located in the adjacent parking lot marks a place of special memories for many Southaven citizens. Before the retail buildings were built in the early 1970s, this tree saw countless players on youth sports teams circle it running for conditioning and athletic disciplinary purposes. "Go to the tree and back" was a strong message sent by coaches back then that quickly grabbed the attention of young players. In the 1980s, "meet me at the tree" needed no further explanation as teenagers used this landmark as the official place where the good times began. Many great memories of high school proms, road trips, sports teams, and the popular routine of "cruising Stateline Road" began right here.
