From the National Register Nomination:
The [present-day] Burleigh County Courthouse is a three-story structure with a two-story office addition-corridor connecting it to the three-story. A skin of Indiana limestone wraps the structural system of load-bearing masonry in the historic courthouse which rests above a base of pink granite. The Burleigh County courthouse is significant for the role it has played in the history of county government and because it houses many county offices and official records. A stone marker which locates the original county courthouse also can be found on the site.

From 1873 until 1875 Burleigh County rented the building it operated out of. In 1875, the Commission went to the people to obtain $20,000 to build a courthouse and jail. The original courthouse was built on the same location that the present courthouse occupies. The jail was erected with logs. On July 25, 1931, a new courthouse, jail, and sheriff's quarters were dedicated. This new building replaced those built in 1875 at a cost of $300,000.(Submitted on October 25, 2023, by Cosmos Mariner of Cape Canaveral, Florida.)
