This state area was originally dedicated on May 4, 1982
and was made possible through the generous contributions
of the Citizens of Kansas in honor and memory of those
individuals accredited to the Sunflower State who
distinguished themselves at the risk of their lives
above and beyond the call of duty and earned the nation's
highest military commendation the Medal of Honor.
This obelisk of Kansas limestone was provided through
the generosity of the following organizations
The American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and
Disabled American Veterans.
