More about this marker. Konerko's marker is one of 12 dedicated to each of the numbers the Chicago White Sox have retired, including the #42 worn by Jackie Robinson and retired by Major League Baseball in 1997.
 
Regarding Paul Konerko. Paul Konerko was a key member of the 2005 White Sox, who held first place from start to finish during the regular season. In the American League Championship Series, Konerko hit two home runs and earned the MVP award as the White Sox clinched their first AL championship in 46 years. In the World Series, the White Sox swept the Houston Astros in four games to win their first world championship in 88 years. Konerko finished the Sox's playoff run with five home runs and 15 RBIs.
