It is believed that a frequent overnight guest during his excursions to Huntsville for horseracing was General Andrew Jackson, a long-term friend and later 7th President of the United States. Both men were considered pioneers in their respective territories and later their states. It is also believed that both men contributed to Alabama's transition to statehood.
