While assigned to the 5th Bomb Wing in Foggia, Italy, Staff Sergeant Wilson Dew over 50 combat missions as a ball turret gunner on the B-17 Flying Fortress, arguably one of the most dangerous jobs in the Army Air Corps. He flew his "Golden Mission" on 16 December 1944 when the 341st few deep into enemy territory under heavy anti-aircraft fire to attack the railway yards in Linz, Austria.
