1. Casa de Anza Marker
Inscription.
In direct response to the rapid growth of the oil industry throughout the Ventura Avenue area, Casa de Anza was built in 1929 by Richard Langdon, in connection with the Austin A. Chute Development Company. Along with 14 apartments on the upper floors, the building originally contained four shops on the first floor, including a dress shop, an upholstery shop, a beauty shop, and a refrigeration service.

In 1997, as the building's condition reached a state of severe decline, the Westside Community Council became active in an effort to save and revitalize this local historic landmark as a rich part of the Avenue's colorful history. In 1998 the building was bought and renovated by David and Donna Stewart, with assistance from the City of Ventura, and became the proud new home of residents and the relocated Avenue Library.

Erected by City of San Buenaventura Historic Preservation Committee. (Marker Number 87.)
