Regarding Grace Episcopal Church.
Excerpt from the NRHP 98001113 Statement of Significance:
Grace Episcopal Church is significant under criterion C as a representative intact example of a small Episcopal church in the High Victorian Gothic style. Constructed in 1871 in the small Broome County village of Whitney Point, Grace Church is characterized by wood-frame construction, asymmetrical massing with bold, off-set entrance tower, triple lancet window on the facade, pointed-arched openings and Gothic decorative motifs throughout. The church is especially distinguished by its exposed king-post truss roof system supporting a two-stage vaulted ceiling with elaborate trompe l'oeil painting simulating stone, ribbed, Gothic-arched work. The painting is the work of a local painter, Daniel D. Butts, and dates from the period of construction.
