Inscription.

William Davenport built a three story brick Italianate structure on this site in 1863. It housed a general store on the first level and rented space to local organizations on the upper levels. The store provided the only safe in town. Customers soon asked to store their valuables in the safe. This demand convinced Mr. Davenport to close the store and open a bank in 1885. Known as the Citizens Bank. It operated until the 1990's under various owners and then named the Key Bank. Carl Curtiss hired by Mr. Davenport, was dedicated to serving his community and elected president of Citizens Bank in 1931 following the death of Beverly Davenport, the son of William Davenport. Mr. Curtiss served as president until his death in 1967.
